Cookie Policy
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. "Similar technologies" include your browser's local storage, the cache a web app uses to work offline (a "service worker"), push-notification subscriptions, and small images in emails that report when they are opened. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) require us to tell you about these and, unless they are strictly necessary or otherwise exempt, to ask for your consent first.
2. What we use
| Name / type | What it does | Type | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
connect.sid (cookie) | Keeps you logged in as you move between pages. | Strictly necessary | Until you close your browser or log out |
_csrf (cookie) | Security: stops other websites submitting forms as you (cross-site request forgery protection). | Strictly necessary | Until you close your browser |
| Local storage — drafts and progress | Saves certificate and form drafts, simulator, quiz and game progress and scores on your device so you do not lose your work. | Requested by you / functionality | Until you clear it, finish the task or clear your browser data |
| Local storage — interface preferences | Remembers small choices such as hiding the "turn on notifications" prompt. | Functionality | Until you clear your browser data |
| Service worker and app cache | Lets iZapp install as an app, load quickly and show an offline page. | Strictly necessary | Updated with each new version; cleared if you uninstall the app or clear site data |
| Push subscription | Delivers notifications to your device — only if you click "Allow" when your browser asks. | Consent | Until you turn notifications off |
We do not use cookies to track you across other websites, and we do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or similar tools. To understand which parts of iZapp are used, when you are logged in your browser tells our server which section you are in every 30 seconds while the tab is open and you are active. This uses no cookies or storage on your device; we only keep daily totals per section (see our Privacy Policy).
3. Third parties
- Stripe (payments). When you buy ZAPPs+ you are taken to Stripe's secure checkout page. Stripe sets its own cookies there to process the payment and prevent fraud, which are strictly necessary for the purchase. See Stripe's cookie policy.
- Embedded videos (YouTube and Vimeo). Tutorial videos hosted on YouTube or Vimeo are not loaded until you click to play them. YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo videos use Vimeo's "do not track" setting, but once you choose to play a video, those providers may still store information on your device under their own policies: Google, Vimeo.
- Code libraries. Some open-source libraries are loaded from content delivery networks (cdnjs, unpkg, jsDelivr). These do not set cookies, but they receive your IP address when the files download.
- External links. Links to sites such as Trustpilot, Google or social networks take you to those sites, whose own cookie policies apply.
4. Emails
iZapp's own account emails do not contain tracking images. If a business using iZapp turns on read receipts, quote and invoice emails it sends to its customers contain a tiny image that tells that business when the email was opened. The business is responsible for that choice. You can prevent it by not loading images automatically in your email app.
5. Managing cookies and storage
You can delete cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings (look for "Cookies and site data" or "Clear browsing data"). If you block the strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to log in. Clearing local storage will remove any unsaved drafts and on-device progress. You can turn push notifications off in your browser or device settings.
6. Changes and contact
If we ever want to use cookies that need your consent, we will ask you first and update this page. Questions? Email hello@izapp.app. More about how we use personal data is in our Privacy Policy.
